A Love Letter,

From the desk of Marsha Amanova

October 2021

Hello!

I hope this letter finds you well. Happy Hallowe'en? I would say that I'm in good spirits, although still feeling a lack of energy and mental capacity. Zombie-like, but not a total zombie. I suppose that is, as they say, the new normal?

Work has been going well and taking up most of that limited energy/capacity, but I'm also enjoying my rest time. I've been knitting again (Aldon really needed a new hat, and I need socks), which I find meditative and relaxing. I'm still practising yoga every morning; I honestly don't know what I'd do without my daily Yoga with Adriene fix. Her positive energy and "find what feels good" vibe has been so good for me in so many ways.

And as usual, with the change in weather we've kicked up the tv habit too. We're really enjoying Foundation (sci-fi), and we've been watching documentaries: music (1971 and Watch the Sound were both really good), travel (train journeys!) and nature.

We had to move all of our music gear out of dad's workshop for hunting season, but we managed to get it all set up in the little den in our flat. I'm not sure how often we will play together here, but at least we have the option. I feel like I've stalled out on my progress playing guitar, so maybe this winter will bring inspiration to learn some new skills.

Aldon has been doing most of the cooking and meal planning lately, which is amazing and soooo appreciated, but I do miss working in the kitchen sometimes. So yesterday, while he played a game online, I went on a binge and made energy balls, banana muffins, roasted a pumpkin to puree (and saved the seeds to roast for snacks today), and then made butternut squash and black bean enchiladas. So much autumn-yum!

Today we're looking forward to making homemade pasta with mom (her pasta maker is fun & the results are delicious). We'll make two lasagnes: one vegetarian for me, and one with meat, for dad. I'm pretty sure mom and Aldon would happily eat either!
This month I decided to start doing something with all of the photos and videos I've been capturing, so I raised the old blog from the dead (again! See two recent posts, below). Of course hardly anyone reads blogs anymore, so even though I'm still really hesitant to spend my time on social media, I've also resurrected my Instagram account. I'm not sure if I'll keep it up, but I've started a process that has been working for me so far (5-10 minutes in the mornings).

Walking in Wentworth

The weather was fantastic yesterday so I took the afternoon off (again) and we went for a lovely drive into the Wentworth valley (again). This time we parked outside the gate of the (closed) Provincial Park and walked in to access the trails.

Autumn Waterfall Walk
Is there anything better, on a beautiful autumn afternoon, than a drive to the valley to check out the leaves and maybe take a little walk to a waterfall?
