A Love Letter,

From the desk of Marsha Amanova

April 2021

Hello, you!

I hope this letter finds you well.

Things are fine here. I mean, as fine as they can be? The NB/NS border is still closed. Both of my parents have received their first vaccination. We had hoped to see my mom for her birthday earlier this month, but it's looking like even Mother's Day will be out of the question. Right now we're setting our sights on July 4th, my parents' anniversary. Last year the Atlantic Bubble (allowing inter-provincial travel) opened right after Canada Day, so if the pandemic gets under control again, it's not unimaginable!

How about a little poem, just for fun?

Spring Incoming

It's always a struggle
wind blowing
rain falling
maybe just a bit more snow
the grey above clashing with green below

Our sun drops by occasionally
gracing us with light
warmer now, a kiss

Closed eyes, face upturned
inhale ~ smile ~ exhale
Can you feel the love?

knitting

I finally finished these socks.

I haven't really been picking up my needles very often, so these have been in progress for over 4 months, but now they are complete! I love them.

walking

Walks are exciting again.

Once again, I can look forward to my walk every day. There's so much going on out there! The birds are back in town, and apparently I've become a little obsessed with birds. The weather was so spectacular this past weekend, I ended up just sitting outside for a while in the sunshine, listening to the birds.

There's not a lot of blooms yet, but every bit of colour is exciting. Every day there's something new. Walking, once again, feels like getting out in nature. We seized the opportunity of good weather and drove out to a nearby trail to get a proper forest bath with friends. I saw a little snake! I'm convinced that's good luck.

Have you had any outdoor adventures lately?

Fiction Love

This is How You Lose the Time War
This was recommended to me by a friend and I loved it. I'm not sure how I would categorize it... Fantasy, maybe? The writing is excellent. It's lyrical and evocative. The story is compelling and it's just strange and beautiful.

Hamnet
You don't have to be into Shakespeare in order to love this book (the playwright's name is never even mentioned), but I suppose a passing interest in Elizabethan England or historical fiction would help. I loved the characters, especially Agnes, and the way the story unfolds is magnificent.

What are you reading?

anticipating

Speaking of Shakespeare...

I'm pretty damn excited to be involved in a summer production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. I've been cast as Titania (queen of the fairies!) and if all goes well we'll start rehearsing next month.

Part of the Festival by the Marsh, we will perform at nearby Fort Beauséjour in early August.

What are you looking forward to?

watching

International Reality TV, I guess?

We're currently watching a few gems, but I'm not sure how available they are for people to find (Aldon acquires all of our media, so you could ask him).

LEGO Masters Australia Season 3
I can't explain why this is SO AMAZING, but it is. It's a competition, but friendly. Everyone just loves LEGO. The host, Haimish, is super cheesy, but so damn likeable. It's a bunch of weirdo, creative, inventive Aussies just building the best damn LEGO masterpieces they can build. It's incredible and so. much. fun.

George Clarke's National Trust Unlocked
We're huge George Clarke fans after discovering Amazing Spaces, the show where people create... unconventional and amazing spaces. From that we found this series, filmed last year during lockdown in the UK, where George takes us into a variety of incredibly beautiful and well maintained historic National Trust properties. It is so enjoyable!
What's going on with you? What have you been loving lately? Hit reply and let me know! I love hearing from you.
